how can i turn a/x into a power of x or a power of a? for example: 48 -- How can i turn this into a power of X or a power of 48? X

Sounds like you want log. For example, log(a)/log(x) = y, where x^y = a.

So, for example, log(49)/log(7) = 2. As 7^2 = 49.

I don't quite understand--does the whole expression have to be a power-of-something? In a bizzare roundabout way,

48 / x
= xlogx(48 / x)
= xlogx48 - 1

More practically,

48 / x = 48 * x-1

*shrugs*
