[web] Custom Text Areas

All right, what I'm trying to do is create a custom text area like they have in WYSIWYG editors... where I can say start typing in bold/itallic/etc... and it does it in the text area... any good links or code snippets to how this is done? Oh, and here is a GUI I've been working on: Linky

Do it as a Java applet unless your aiming to create a barely-usable program that's bloated with lots of if(browser == blah)'s. There is the standard-by-default (as in supported by IE, Gecko, and WebKit) contenteditable property, but it needs a bit of javascript to turn it into what you're thinking of.
