I want to make a GUI for my game, but i've been unable to figure out where to start. I've tried "crazy eddies" GUI library. but i just cant get my head arouind it. anyway, Where should i start, i dont want to be tied down to the basic looking Windows GUI elements I want a compleately custom design for my game that ties into the look and feel of it. I've looked a little at Direct draw for 2d rendeirng, is this what i should do? I want to create my gui elements in a image file then chop them away and build them together on the screen. Any help?

I believe that the DirectX SDK includes some sort of a GUI framework. I know all of the sample applications use it. You might look into that.

Here is an article on creating a GUI with DirectX. I haven't read it, so I don't know if it is dated or how much help it will be.
