about water effect ,please help me .

i saw some games made a water effect, that, they render few white wave near by the lakeshore. ohhhhhhhhhh~~~ how to do this ?? please help me.

Looks to me like the typical panning texture on top of some nicely bump mapped but completely flat water.

So, seeing as you asked about the white waves, heres what you do:
Model your lake as a big flat polygon with a strip of polys around the edge where it meets the shore. For this strip of polygons, you will not only render the water, but also a texture with white wave crests on it. Set up the alpha values of the vertices and use an appropriate blending mode to make the texture fade in as it gets closer to the shore. Then to make it move, you just change the texture co-ordinates.
