Texture Mapping - combine functions

How is the texture environment mode GL_COMBINE is used, is it to combine color values obtained from two texture units? Where can I get a sample code for this?

This is used to combine textures. You can combine your color values in many different ways (there are a lot of extensions, even Dot3 Bump Mapping!), it just depends on the supported extensions. Additionally, you can combine texture values with vertex color alpha channel. Just play around with the values and see, what happens ;)
