Found something neat that we can order for free, such as CDs or DVDs of software, technical manuals, and the like? Post about it in this thread, so everyone can benefit from your discovery! (Please adhere to the template further in this thread, and limit it to software and stuff that can be delivered to your homes and places of business.)
Quote:Original post, saved for posterity I've been trying to find that old "free stuff" thread that used to be here that linked to all the other free stuff threads like the Intel books. Anyone have it bookmarked or something?

We should start a new one.
Well, here it is, then. But let us still find the old one so we can rape it for links.

Please use the following format to describe any free stuff in this thread:
Quote:
{Product Title}

URL: {Link}
The Goods: A brief description of the product or service available for order over the internet.
The Catch: Any caveats that make it potentially useless or troublesome.

For good freebies, look no further than the Fatwallet Free Stuff Forum.

Just got my free tire pressure gauge today from the Texas Clean Air Commission (TX residents only). All hail Fatwallet.

(my byline from the Gamedev Collection series, which I co-edited) John Hattan has been working steadily in the casual game-space since the TRS-80 days and professionally since 1990. After seeing his small-format games turned down for what turned out to be Tandy's last PC release, he took them independent, eventually releasing them as several discount game-packs through a couple of publishers. The packs are actually still available on store-shelves, although you'll need a keen eye to find them nowadays. He continues to work in the casual game-space as an independent developer, largely working on games in Flash for his website, The Code Zone (www.thecodezone.com). His current scheme is to distribute his games virally on various web-portals and widget platforms. In addition, John writes weekly product reviews and blogs (over ten years old) for www.gamedev.net from his home office where he lives with his wife and daughter in their home in the woods near Lake Grapevine in Texas.

IA-32 Intel® Architecture Software Developer's Manuals

URL: http://developer.intel.com/design/pentium4/manuals/index2.htm
The Goods: Five dead-tree manuals documenting the architecture and instruction set of the IA-32 series of processors (also known as the x86 series). The books are free, the delivery (via FedEx) is free, all's well with the world.
The Catch: None. Looks like they'll ship anywhere around the world.

Microsoft Visual Studio Partner Product DVD

URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/extend/partnerdvd/
The Goods: A free DVD loaded with "over 75 tools, components and languages from Visual Studio Industry Partners."
The Catch: Some of the software is free and full versions. Most of it are demos or time trials, however. Also, some software might not have VS2005 support (yet).

Wait, is this thread about "stuff" that will actually get shipped to your house, or does free software count?
