Problem with GL_SPHERE_MAP

As you know, GL_SPHERE_MAP generates texture coordinates for the sphere automatically. I had no problems with this, the texture mapping turned out to be successful however whenever I rotate the sphere it seems like the GL_SPHERE_MAP adjusts the coordinates. So no matter how I rotate, the orientation of the image remains constant therefore it seems that the sphere isn;t rotating at all. Anyone know a remedy for this?
