A long time ago I had downloaded a shareware demo of `AI Wars' by Tactical Neuronics. In this game, players could program a small robot using simple instructions, dump it into a fighting pit and have it fight other programmed robots. Recently I bumped into `Terrarium', which is a .NET demonstration project by Microsoft for which players could program their own AI for bugs using C# or VB. Players would dump their bugs into an online ecosystem and see if their creations would strive or become extinct. I'm very much intrigued with both projects and was wondering if any of you known similar projects where AI is used for competitive programming. Cheers, Stemic

if a response machine counts then yes.

I had this *game* i cant remember its name but may robot wars. Anyways you would build a fighting robot, then program it through a sensor&response network&a language.

And then when the robot fought you were absolutely an observer like in AI Wars

There's RARS, which is robot racing. They have competitions like race seasons using people's racers, it's pretty neat. I made one once but never competed, mine sucked anyway :).
