Hey I'm looking for information on how to do browser plugin development. I'm currenctly googling but it's hard to filter the information. What I'm looking for is something what Sun has done with the java plug-in and Macromedia has done with Flash. It should be able to run in any browser and on any OS (there will be one downlad per OS though, since I don't think thios can be solweed trully cross-plattform). So if anyone have any good resources on cross-browser plugin development that would be sweet. thanks Lizard

There is an API, the Netscape Plugin API which is used by all browsers except for MSIE. This is binary compatible between different browsers.

However, you'd still need to use the platform's facilities for graphics, windowing etc, so your plugin can't easily be completely cross-platform unless you also abstract those parts of the plugin.

The API itself is somewhat different between the different platforms, as it needs to pass different types of resources for the GUI stuff.

Unfortunately the main doc is offline as AOL have binned developer.netscape.com

It's still in web.archive.org though.
