What color mode is best to use?
16,24 or 32 bit?
32 bit. Cause it allows to use transparency and the colors are much clearer. You can use 16 bits to, but the quality is much lower.

With todays technology, 32 bit isnt a hassle on the graphics cards or processors?

Why stick with 16 bit and dithering, which looks crappy. Use 32 bit and have no fear;)
