[.net] Texture help

I really need some help, im trying to load in textures and nothing seems to work. I have a simple 3d cube that i want to apply a texture to, i create the texture and load the .bmp file into the texture using the textureloader.fromfile function and that works perfect. I want to make the whole texture black so i do this...
SurfaceDescription s = theTexture.GetLevelDescription(0);
UInt16[,] data = (UInt16[,])theTexture.LockRectangle(typeof(UInt16), 0, LockFlags.None, s.Width, s.Height);

for (Int16 x = 0; x < s.Height; x++){
     for (Int16 y = 0; y < s.Width; y++){
          data[x, y] = (UInt16)Color.Red.ToArgb();


Why is the color not red? and why does it only fill half the texture? Thanks for any help, -Dave
