OpenGL glut or gl ?

I'm planning on using OpenGL and SDL to write a game. Is there any reason to use glut before the "ordinary" gl-api ?

Ah I see. I've been having some trouble getting my glut code to compile on m xp system. Maybe I shouldn't even bother with it and go straight for whatever is more in use?

I haven't trouble to compile glut on xp, but i haven't used it for a long time, cause i program my wrappers myself. You can try others like GLFW.
