how about the solution 3d sprite tile based game?

hi,all I'm making a tile based game with cdx(seems nobody maintain this directx wrapper lib now, but it is perfect for a 2d tile based game). Now I want to switch the sprite in the game from 2d to 3d, and keep the scene still as 2d. How about solution for this requirement. I'm not sure whether cdx can support this. Anyway, I perfer to still using cdx or modifying cdx to fit this feature, otherwise it will change a lot for the game engine. Does anybody has same experience before? Any help and suggestion will be greatly appreciated! Frank

What I want is that I would like to build a tile based game with 2d backgroud and 3d sprite. And for the 3d sprite displaying, it only need to display the sprite's animation with a fixed camera, and needn't any rotation. Is there any solution for this?
