I have access to the MSDN Academic Alliance system through my university and because of this I was able to download a copy of Visual Studio 2005 Professional edition. I finally finished downloading and burning the .iso's of the 2 install CDs and installing them, but when I went to install the MSDN library it told me I didn't have the proper CDs. On the VS website it says that MSDN comes with the Standard and Pro version of VS and it even says so in their documentation. Does anyone know how I can get MSDN or if the MSDNAA version of VS2005 Pro is different from the retail version (even though they say that it they are the exact same product)? Thanks for any help, Signpost

VS2005 Pro MSDNAA does not differ from the retail product except for the licensing. Basically the difference is if you use Academic versions of any Microsoft Software it can only be used for Learning/Academic reasons. So if you made a game using the VS2005 MSDNAA and tried to sell it, that would be illegal. I'm sure that if I am incorrect on this point one of my learned collegues will correct me.

As for the MSDN Library coming with VS2005... I know on the VS2005 DVD the VS install and MSDN Library are on the same disk. However if you did not download the DVD ISO, but the CD ISO's instead, then there should be 3 more ISO files you need to download to get the MSDN Library.

hmmm.. I will have to check the site again, maybe they didn't have the .iso's posted yet. Atleast I hope that is the case, I would hate to miss out on getting the updated MSDN.

Yea, unfortunately the latest version MSDNAA seems to have available is the January 2005 edition which is quite old by this time. I might give downloading the DVDs a shot to see if there's a newer version on there, since I downloaded the normal 2CD download as well.

heh I just found it also, for me it was not listed with all the other items (icons) but if you do a search by title it lists all available software in a pulldown menu and it is listed in there, 3 cd iso's.
