direct x in the browser / activex
I've not seen it done for many years now. There was a VB6/DX6 applet that you could get on a website, but I'd be amazed if you can still find that [wink]
The problem is more of a security/feature issue - ActiveX is (or should be) a highly restrictive part of the browser; in the wrong hands it can do a whole lot of bad things. Trying to get direct access to the hardware (e.g. graphics) doesn't really fit into the "sandbox" mentality that a lot of people try to stick to with applets.

Here is just about the closest thing I could find.
It uses DirectShow, not D3D. But if you can get DShow to work, you can probably get D3D to work.

Here is (in C++) an ActiveX control for Visual Basic that allows playing any movie file that's compatible with DirectShow. The ActiveX object also provides the complete interface for controlling the movie's playback.
