help with textures
ok, well, this may seem like a very simple thing to fix, but i just cant think of it. i am trying to use this code to create two cubes, one having the mapped bitmap, and the other not, but it simply wont let me. and another question, how would i rotate, and move around just ONE cube, and not the other?
here is my code:
Is texturing enabled? Try throwing glEnable(GL_TEXTURE_2D) in before you draw your cubes. As for moving one cube but not the other, look into glPushMatrix() and glPopMatrix().
You can also disable texturing after the first cube so that the second cube doesn't have a texture. glDisable(GL_TEXTURE_2D);
no, i can texture everyhting fine, but it gives me two cbues, which are the same, i only want the top cube to have the mitmap texture don it, i want the second to be normal...must i draw the seocnd one first to have this done, or is there an actual way to do it?
Just dont declare any texture coordinates for your second cube, and nothing will be textured onto it, thats probably more efficient than disable and enabling texturing every update.
Actually, not declaring texture co-ordinates still has the cube textured, just the texture co-ordinate 0,0 (I think it's 0,0) is mapped to every vertex. So if you see strange discolouration, it's because of that ;)
Actually the last texture coordinate specified will be used, rather than (0,0). Every fragment will be textured with the same value.
You want to either disable texture mapping or change to a fragment program which does not apply texture mapping. (Fragment programs override the texture enables.)

hah, wow, i cant belive i didnt think of that!! lol, wow...well, thanks for all your input, now i know what i did wrong.
as has been stated by two other people, that wont work.
If you dont want something to be textured, disable texturing, its the correct way todo it and any other way is just a 'hack' and should be avoided.
