Some time ago I read this. For serious performance benchmarks you should use a profiler but sometimes I just want to know how fast a certain routine is. So my question is: is there something similar to Win32's QueryPerformanceCounter() and GetThreadTimes() in some Unix-API? I'm coding in Linux but ofcourse there is no harm in usings something that works on all *nix systems, like POSIX. And are there any better ways to do what I'm trying to do? MSDN QueryPerformanceCounter() MSDN GetThreadTimes()

There's an older thread with some functions that can work. I use gettimeofday, but I'm not sure if it's accurate enough on all systems (works on linux well enough for me at least).
