3DS Max Converting Quads to Polygons

Hi guys, I have 3DS Max version 5. I am a noob to modelling. I was just wondering if 3DS Max converts all quads to triangles when exporting models to files ? I need to know this as I am writing my own rendering system. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

More than likely, yes. It would depend on which type of files you're exporting to. 3DS files don't contain quads that I'm aware of, just triangles. X files are template driven, so it would depend on the exporter. Most will export triangles I'd bet, but you may find one that exports quads.
