Flipcode.com has some tutorials about lightmap generation and packing.
And you can find a radiosity processor, which generates lightmaps, too, on www.fluidstudios.com

ok, thx Enrico.

I found this white pretty much covers the procces of generating the lightmaps:

http://www.flipcode.com/articles/article_lightmapping.shtml

I also have found this on lightmap packing:

http://blackpawn.com/texts/lightmaps/default.html

There is not much sample code on those links anyone else got any good resources,
perhaps a book or more tutorials/articels?

The radiosity processor from fluid studio comes with full source. So it might be worth a look at. I found it quite useful ;)
Flipcode has another article, which covers lightmap generation: http://www.flipcode.com/articles/article_lightmaps.shtml

I dont know any books about lightmap generation, only radiosity itself. The article from blackpawn covers all you need for lightmap packing.
