3d engine with large terrain support

I''m looking for a 3d engine that supports large outdoor terrain for a simple RPG game.
I''ve already had a look at Genesis3D, but I think it is not powerful enough until v2.0 has been released.
Does anyone know a good (free!) 3d engine, that I could work with?
