Does the DX9 SDK intergrate with VS 8?
Have not played with Direct X for awhile. Installed the SDK, open up VS and no option for a Direct X app or debugging?
Perhaps I did it wrong. Any help?
Thanks.
You probably have done things correctly, but there are a few quirks [smile]
Firstly, there is no AppWizard type feature for DirectX. You can't (and haven't been able to for a long time) go File->New Project and select a DirectX app. Instead, open up the 'Sample Browser' and find a sample that is similar to what you want to do and click 'Install Project' - it'll create a copy of all the necessary files for you to get started from.
Secondly, there appear to be some issues with integrating some of the SDK features with the Express Edition SKU's. It was raised on the WGGT/MSDN forums a while back and one of the DX team confirmed that it was fine for standard/pro but not EE. Expect a fix in the February '06 SDK...
Thirdly, the shader debugger(s) are likely to go the way of the dodo WRT to VS2005. It seems that the long term strategy is more towards using PIX as a debugging/analysis tool - or possibly using RenderMonkey/FXComposer...

In the december SDK notes, they said something like the debugger "hadn't yet" been integrated into VS2k5. (IIRC)
So dunno, I suppose they might add it. Or jollyjeffers might be right, they won't... In any case, it's not there yet

Hehe, there isn't exactly a clear message yet - my interpretation is that it won't, but then again they haven't specifically stated that as a fact.
It's the wait-and-see game [smile]
