question about lens flare

if light source is partially occluded by some geometry, do i still display those ring flares? or just reduce the intensity of the ring flares? i'm not quite sure which is more physically realistic ... don't display them at all or just decrease the intensity of ring flares. thanks.

A point light source cannot be partially occluded by opaque geometry. If you're simulating an area light source with a point light source (or seeing the light source through a partially transparent object), just scale the intensity of the light by 1 minus the amount of occlusion.
