what programmer is good?

I was art worker before. today I browse some pics on internet. I found I can see which art work are good ,which are done by beginners at glance. Now I translate to game development, so I wonder what make your program work ( code ) look good and excellent , which make your code look like done by beginner? that is ,when employer see you code, what make he employ you?

Mostly you can see a good programmer by good coding style. Means tabbing, brackets, comment, etc.

But also very important is:
- is the code small, but handles errors
- does it work
- is it perfomant enough for the given task
- can also non-programmers understand the working of the code by just reading the comments

there are more factors, but these are the ones that cam to my mind.
