Howdy This is my first post here. Happy to be here. I've read some threads about the relationship between scene graphs and octree's and quadtree's, and i've gotten some different viewpoints on how they should work together. I have tossed around a couple of ways to work this out: A) having the scene graph and spatial be in the same hierarchy: the nodes of the scene graph start at the bottom of the spatial. this has been generaly considered bad practice in most threads. B) having the scene graph and spatial seperate, but connected by pointers between scene graph nodes and spatial nodes. C) having them completely seperate. I would like to connect them in some way: this would allow the scene graph nodes to be affected by the culling of the spatial tree (for example, nodes can be activated or deactivated based on spatial relationships; the objects outside of the immediate gameplay area can be ignored). Also the spatial data structure could be used for culling of scenery and collision objects. Right now I am leaning towards B) If anyone has ideas, thoughts, all knowing wisdom about upsides and downsides, please let me know.
