Collision Detection (Morgan Kaufmann)

There are two books in the Morgan Kaufman series that deal with collision detection. The official description of these two books does not hint how to choose one over the other: http://www.geometrictools.com/Books/InteractiveSeries/InteractiveSeries.html Has anyone read either or both of these books? Care to explain how the books "compare?"

I assume you're talking about the books by Gino van den Bergen and Christer Ericson.

Both books are good. Gino's book is less general and, while it does cover a number of common algorithms, is largely focused on GJK and the SOLID implementation in particular. Some of it is kind of difficult going if you're not comfortable with math/set theory. Christer's book is more comprehensive and covers a lot of ground, including in-depth discussions of many algorithms for both the broad and narrow phase. Both books address the numerical issues inherent in many collision detection algorithms.

If you want a good general reference, Christer's book is hard to beat; unless you have a particular interest in GJK, you might get more out of 'Real Time Collision Detection'. (Not that Christer doesn't cover GJK - it's just not the focus of his book.)

YMMV though. The above is just IMHO - I'm not a professional, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.
