sound problems

Anyone here ever used OpenAL to load 16bit stereo wave files before??? This is what I''m doing (after loading a file)... -- alBufferData (g_Buffer[ID], AL_FORMAT_STEREO16, g_SoundInfo[ID].data, g_SoundInfo[ID].size, g_SoundInfo[ID].freq); As you can i see I specify 16bit stereo but it keeps on loading the files as 16bit mono, can anyone tell me why this is happening??
