OpenGL [OPENGL] Monochrome (2 bit) use in OpenGL. How?

I have a few fonts on bitmaps that I''d like to use in my console. The fon''t seems to reduce fine to 2 bits, a mere 8k. However, I''m at a loss as to how I would actually use that as a texture. Will I have to upsample the image to 8 bit to use? Many thanks Chris
