GLSL: default function parameter

Hi, is something like this allowed in GLSL?
float foo( float defaultValue = 1.0 )
return defaultValue;
It does work on my nVidia Card, but IIRC it hadn't worked on my old ATi card (a year ago). Was it a bug or is it allowed in GLSL? thanks
