particle engine for dust

Hello! I want to make a particle engine (opengl) that generates dust around racing-car tires. I tried to find some good resources on particle engines, and especially on the thing I want to do, but without success. Can you give me sources, where I can find more infos about this topic (except nehe.*)? thanks,

Did the nehe code not help?

If you want dust can you not change the textures to a dusty texture instead and make them more transparent?

yes, the nehe code is a good starting point. I also looked into some other particle engines and slowly I do understand how to implement such dust. It seems to be quite easy (but I'm sure, that there come many problems when I implement my particle engine...).
