I heard that when converting from Visual Studio .NET 2003 to .NET 2005, I heard that it was better to create new Solutions and Projects because the apps compile/run faster. Is this true? Are there any other issues that I should be aware of?

VS2005 will convert your 2003 solutions into a new format after making a backup in case of conversion errors. I don't think that there's a performance hit.
