2D Isometric Z-Buffer
I am writing my own isometric engine right now, and it is actually nearing completion. But I have one big problem: sorting the character/object sprites on the map so they are drawn correcty, in a left-to-right, back-to-front order. I currently have one such sorter, but it has its bugs. It takes a full second to do a sort, so I can only run it at initialization. I was wondering what everyone else uses. All character and unit location coordinates are in screen coordinates, based on the screen, not on the isometric map, and they are free to move and stop anywhere, not just on one tile. Thus, I could theoretically have all characters and objects in the same tile.
