thoughts on ID3DXEffect

I really don't know if it's worth the time to implement different types of shaderprograms. I mean you got regular shaders, fragments and the awesome effect interface. I *personally* can't find any needs besides the effect interface, and with the coming of XNA and it's unified shader architecture it seems to me that specific vertex and pixelshaders are obsolete. Can someone tell me why I should bother implementing anything else but the effect interface?
