... I'd say hello :) I'm new here - as you can probably tell from my post count - and I'm very interested in learning the different aspects of game development, specifically programming and the artistic side. Whilst in terms of coding I know quite basic XHTML and php, and I have good familiarity with Photoshop when it comes to art, I have no real expirience in any part of this; I just really want to learn. If you guys could help me where to get started, I'd be eternally appreciative. There's so much on the internet and I just don't know what to follow. I think I need to sit down and read a few programming books too, so any recommendations are gratefully received. Thanks, and I hope to be a part of this community for a long while to come :)

Have a run through this tutorial. It will get you an introduction to some basic programming concepts, and let you dabble in Python, which is a really nice language. I don't know how much experience you have with PHP, but you should find Python pretty straightforward. Once you're comfortable with the language, have a look at the PyGame library, which is specifically designed to help build games in the Python language.

Once you get through that... you should have a few ideas for stuff you want to explore next, and then it's just a matter of figuring out which things to try and in what order [smile]

Thanks for that, it's really interesting and I'm getting the hang of it quite quickly. Really great tutorial (and program) for beginners like myself.
