MDX - HLSL Point Sprites

I am working on a particle system that uses point sprites rendered with HLSL. I have heard of the "PSIZE" semantic, but I have had a lot of difficulty finding an example of its use. How exactly do I go about using it? I am using Managed DirectX and I don't really know how to put the psize data into the VertexBuffer I am using, i.e. there is no CustomVertex.PositionSize. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
