Meshes and Collision detection
Hi,
I'm writing a simple engine similar to an fps where my maps are stored as meshes in .X files. I'm able to load the map from file and move the camera around , but have no idea how to implement collision detection to prevent my camera from going through the walls.
I thought about using a bounding sphere for my camera but am seriously stuck about how exactly to know if i'm running into a mesh.
Any help will be most appreciated
Thx
This paper is the greatest thing ever made, also the paper uses a bounding ellipsoid...
Collision Paper
You'll have to implement some of it yourself, but the paper is very complete. If you have absolutly no clue where to go from there, read it again, otherwise have fun.
p.s., it's probably a good idea to partition your world to cull out triangles that would be imposible to collide with :)
EDIT: Fixed link - not prefixing 'http://' seems to confuse the forum software!

The link doesn't quite work, somehow the gamedev forums url got tagged in front. Just take it off and it works.

Fixed Link
Quote:Original post by StifflerI fixed it up in your original post - you need to add http:// at the start, rather than just start with www. Not entirely sure why - but it's fairly common [smile]
Sorry about the link, i don't know why it did that. Thanks a lot dmreichard for the fix :)
