About D3DXTessellateTriPatch

In my D3D9 program i pick a triangle with mouse and now i want to divide it into serval parts. I try to use the N-Pitches method which will divide each edge of my triangle into n parts and will divide it into n*n parts. And then i will add the addtional vertex which generated during dividing process into my vertex buffer. Now the problem is that i am not sure whether the D3DXTessellateTriPatch function would do and if yes, it seems to return a indexed vertex buffer to me while i actually need a un-indexed vertex buffer. So i want to implement the function by myself. Can anyone give me some hint or correlative thesis? Thank you!
