OpenGL Stippled curves - 2D

Hello, dudes! My question is how to draw a curve in openGL using a stippling pattern. More specifically: i write an app that presents 2D graphs that consist of short line segments. And i wish to present multiple graphs on the same plot using different line patterns. The problem is that the segments are shorter than the pattern (hence use of glLineStipple does not help me)and i do not wish to reduce the number of segments in order not to screw up the smoothness of the curve. When Matlab plots a curve using a dot-dash pattern - the dashes are curved themselves. That's, actually what i want. Any ideas?
