2D Physics and Collision Detection

I'm trying to create a 2D paradox scrolling (platform) game with a physics engine capable of collision detection and response for multiple simple objects (round n-gons & boxes) as well as a 1 mesh made entirely of triangles. Does anyone know of an existing physics engine, or tutorials on related subjects? Rope physics is a plus. Any help is greatly appreciated!

You can use any dynamics engine for this, really. You won't find much in the way of specific 2d engines, but there is a way in all the major dynamics engines to support 2d. I'm looking at OPAL (a simplified wrapper for ODE, and perhaps other engines in the future), and it looks like it'll work fine.
