Terrain Collision Detection Help

Heya peoples, The situation: Consider a helicopter flying above some terrain. The xyz of the helicopter (origin) is known. A ray shoots out from the helicopter in a known direction. (direction vector) I want to work out where the helicopters ray intersects the earth. I know I can do this with repeated triangle / ray intersection tests. No problems here. Question: For the terrain (which is actually real world data) I have a sample of points that have xyz data attached to them. From them I can generate a TIN, in a ArcGIS format, which is binary and I cant find any libraries to read the data in this format. I want to convert the data to a format where I can load it into memory and solve the collision detection? Can anyone point me in the right direction? I am planning on using C++. Thanks -Al
