Third Person Camera Problem

Hello, I've build a third person "chase-cam". I picked a point near the top of the objects bounding sphere. As the user pitches and Yaws the object, that point also pitches and yaws. Now, to keep the cams' orientation the same as the object, I set the cam's right, up and look vectors the same as the objects, then I convert the point to spherical and let the camera do the rest. It sort of works... but after a few rotations, it looks like the camera is stationary, until i rotate it a bit more to follow the target... is this gimble lock? Or am I just doing something wrong?
