If you had the client window coordinates from WndProc's LBUTTONDOWN message, how would you translate them into OpenGL's viewport coordinates at a constant Z level (Z=-6.0f in right-handed system). What I want to do is basically have the user click the mouse somewhere, and the triangle on the screen will move to that location. What I dont know is how to transform the coordinates I get from LBUTTONDOWN messages to OpenGL one's. Thanks in advance.

If you are using Orthographic projection it is pretty easy.

I'm using Perspective projection, near = 1.0f, far is 100.0f, angle is 45 degrees. The plane I wish to project to is Z=-6.0
