how to make some crateres?

hi guys, i have a porblem,can you help me? i wanted to make a first personal shot game, i wanted to make some crateres on the wall. how can i do it looks good?

there are many possibilities..

2 approaches:

- simple texturedecals on the wall with depthoffset
- you can even create 3d decals with stencil buffer (theres a gamedev article on this)

I suggest FEAR approach. Create 2D decals with paralax mapping. You'll have nice 3D-looking holes in the wall while rendering only 2 triangles.
