relationship between FVF and vertex data declared in D3DVERTEXELEMENT9

Is there any relationship between what I have declared in FVF ( flexible vertex format ) and the vertex data declared in D3DVERTEXELEMENT9 ( for the declaration of vertex data used in vertex shader ) ? Is that if a diffuse color is used in FVF ( such as (1) ), a 'diffuse color' data should be declared within the vertex data in D3DVERTEXELEMENT9 ( such as (2) ) ? (1) struct CUSTOM_FVF { ... DWORD1 color; // diffuse color ... }; (2) D3DVERTEXELEMENT9 vertexData = { ... { 0, ..., D3DDECLUSAGE_COLOR, 0 }, ... }; thx in advance [Edited by - VChan on April 16, 2006 1:38:30 PM]

I recall reading a section in the DX docs having the title "relationships between FVF and VERTEXELEMENTS" a while ago. Look it up.
