Clipping Quads for sprite rendering

Is there a way to clip a rendering during the DrawUserPrimitives call? I know of Viewport but that is not really clipping. Two calls to DrawUserPrimitives with two Viewport settings results in displaying the last viewport only. I need something that will clip the output for the particular call of DrawUserPrimitives but not destroy anything else. I want to create a scrolling box in the middle of the screen as part of a gui, in 2D days, during the rendering of the scrolling box (after the game is rendered), I would set the clip planes so the the rendering would not "spill over" outside the GUI box. Is there a way to do so in D3D? I am using MDX April 06 in C#.
