Image in Graphics Card
Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way in OpenGL to tell the graphics card to take an image and convert it into a heightmap of floats on the card itself.
Apparently it can be done on relatively "older" architectures, like those with VBO support I think. Could VBOs do it?
EDIT :
Reason for asking is that I have to implement the Geometric Clipmaps algorithm which uses that technique to minimize traffic from the CPU to the GPU.
Thanks

Oops, I accidently said VBAs instead of VBOs.
Also, does anyone know where I can go to find out?
Thanks

if you card supports floating point textures you can simple upload it with glteximage and GL_FLOAT as format.
you could create a dynamic vbo and loop every frame through the current image and calculate the new vertex data.
