Blending Textures in MDX

Can anyone please help me im trying to understand how these SamplerStageStates work for blending textures together. I have my mesh object setup (a cube) and im trying to blend 2 textures onto it from 1 alpha mask (black and white texture). How do i setup my sampler states in managed DirectX to blend the 2 textures against the mask jpg image. or is there some other way i would have to do this other than using sampler states? thanks guys and gals
