DX7.0 Render to Texture

I'm using Blitzmax which is 2D in 3D engine which has DX7 and OGL drivers which can be extended. I would like to use Render To Texture but can't find any examples to follow. Currently, I get RC0 from from surface creation but INVALIDPARAMS when using the setrendertarget parm. It's a bit difficult to provide code as Bmax does a lot of the initialisation and image manipulation. Has anybody got any simple code I can follow or link to a DX7 tutorial? I have references for DX8+ but they seem to use a different method.

try the above link, it uses d3d7 to do render-to-target, but in cpp, hope it can help.

Found the problem last night. BlitzMax uses the TEXTUREMANAGE flag which means I couldn't set videomemory. Took out the texturemanage and it all worked OK.
I'll use that example to make sure I'm not doing anything else wrong.
