Dynamically find a pointer to a Direct3D Device

Is there a method I could use to search for instances of a certain interface in an application using Direct3D8? I'd like to hook the interface in order to count frames and render simple sysinfo. Overlays are NOT an option and I can't use a proxy DLL as the program prohibits the loading of them. Thanks in advance!
