Hello, I'm looking to go ahead with the development of my RTS game, and I see no point in reventing the wheel so I plan to include as much third party software as possible into. But I don't really now what is available. So I figured I asked for opinions from the members of this forum. What are people’s thoughts on the different rendering engines? The only one I've heard of is Ogre and it seems to have everything I would need. But I would find it beneficial to hear some insights into it from people who have used it. What about scripting languages? What is the difference between Lua and Python? Suggestions on Network software would also be appreciated.

I doubt you'll get much of an answer as there are no easy decisions. 'Professionals' tend to be using the expensive purchased engines, often chosen on the basis of support contracts or price, and the hobbyists just pick an engine largely based on personal preference. Each choice is really down to the individual/company's needs.

As for Lua and Python, Lua is more like C and smaller, while Python has more features and libraries but is larger. Which you'd use depends on what you need.
