SetTexture() overhead

I was wondering what happens (in-depth) during a settexture call that makes them so expensive. So for one, it breaks up batching primitives. Also, the new texture data will need to be loaded into cache. There's more to it right? Also, I'm having trouble finding out really detailed info on this kind of stuff, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Thanks, BennyW
